IMPORTANT to note: All ingredients in Dry Mixes are provided to ensure that rats get the nutritional requirements from all ingredients. If you are overfeeding and discarding certain grains continuously you are defeating the objective with regards to providing as much nutritional as possible. Please do not formulate your own mix based purely on what your rats eat first. 

Like with many Ratteries in South Africa, we at Maharaj decided to feed a Dry Mix that we were comfortable with feeding. We were provided with a recipe in 2016 and have been feeding our colonies this mix since then. We are happy with the condition of our rats and therefore have chosen to keep the mix the same and not introduce new ingredients or change any ingredients to make it cheaper. 

In 2018 we were asked by a few individuals if they could purchase the Dry Mix we made, and we thought why not.... Little did we know that we would be dragged through the mud and competition would be rife due to us now "competing" with mixes that are availablen within the Community. 

We use Dog Kibble in our mix, due to the added vitamins and minerals that are added to Dog Kibble during the manufacturing stage. Although from time to time we do add some dried insects and fish to our mix. We select the finest ingredients to ensure that we are not adding harmful ingredients to our mix, yet the new trend is that any Dry mix containing Dog Kibble is an unhealthy choice. 

Insecurities in the Rat Community are the norm unfortunately, and if "you" happen to produce something that people take interest in purchasing then you become the victim of rumours. 

We shall continue to feed our colonies the Mix that we have trusted for the past 3 years and shall provide the community with the option to purchase the Dry mix if they so wish to, but we are not about to change a recipe that has been proven to be beneficial for our rats. 

The 2 items that will not be in our mix at any time are:

Peanuts - High Fat Content / Sunflower Seeds - Proven that some rats are allergic to them

Items that should be provided in moderation / treats:

Dried fruit - High in Sugar / Pumpkin Seeds - Treat Item / Mealworms - High in Fat / Dried Coconut Flakes - High in Fat

We have 3 NEW Dry Mixes available, but these shall first be tried and tested within our colonies prior to making them available to the public.These are the Reproduction and Growth Mix, Maintenance Mix and Kidney Friendly Mix.
