Heaters and Air-conditioners
Posted on 19 July, 2019
People are always concerned about the temperature that their rats deal with, is it too hot or too cold?
The truth of the matter is that you can assist with the varying temperatures by supplying them with tiles etc during the summer months and extra newspaper, cardboard during the winter.
We at Maharaj do not use any heating or cooling systems for the following reasons:
- A new owner may not have the finances to invest in a heater or an air-conditioning unit, meaning that the critter will then have to adjust to its new enviroment whilst it is settling in.
- Our aim is to breed robust rats and having a constant temperature 365 days a year will not determine if a rat within the colony would fall ill if the environment was to change or not.
- By observing if any rats fall ill during the winter or summer months will give an indication if it is a line we breed that cannot handle the change or if it is the colony as a whole.
So yes, you are welcome to use any heating or cooling system in your home, but we prefer to use natures own temperature system and breed the best we can, that can survive changes.
