2018 proved to be a difficult year with regards to maintaining the Chocolate line here at Maharaj. Our first Chocolate litter was born on the 21 March 2018, yet using these offspring for pairings late in 2018 proved a difficult task. We eventually managed to have one litter on 24 November 2018, but only 2 kits were born. We kept one Buck, which is MHJ Charlie and the other kit, also a buck, was sent to Benny Rays Buddies, MHJ Thomas.

We then had to make a decision regarding this line and how we would go about maintaining it, and asked the help from Wheatfields Rattery in Cape Town, to please supply us with 2 Russian Blue does that we could use as an outcross. The outcross litter - MHJ Melvin x WF Liz - were born on the 18 January 2019. 

By doing this outcross we have added dumbo into our Chocolate line, as well as Russian Blue, but we are happy that we managed to produce a litter that now carries the Chocolate gene and we shall work on ensuring the line is once again secured and breeds true to the colour variety.
